Privacy policy
The Car Directory at car.directory.com.au is operated by Directory.com.au Pty Ltd (ABN 68 090 816 461), referred to as "we" in this policy. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Listing details. When a business is listed, we hold its name, address, phone number, website, description and category, plus the name and email address of the person who submitted it. Contact and owner email addresses are stored privately and are never displayed on the site.
- Enquiries and claims. When you send an enquiry to a business, claim a listing or use the contact form, we store your name, email address, phone number if you give it, your message and the IP address the form was sent from. Enquiries are forwarded to the business concerned.
- Payments. If you buy a Featured or Marketing plan, card details are collected and processed by Stripe on Stripe's own pages. We never see or store your card number. We keep the payer's name and email, the plan, the amount, and Stripe's customer, subscription and session identifiers so we can manage the plan.
- Usage data. Our web server records standard access logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type, time) for security and to keep the site running. Listing pages count views and clicks on call and website buttons in aggregate.
How we use it
We use personal information to publish and moderate listings, forward enquiries, verify claims, bill and manage paid plans, respond to messages, prevent spam and abuse, and understand how the directory is used. We do not sell personal information and do not send marketing email to visitors who have not asked for it.
Who we share it with
Enquiry details go to the business you contact. Payment data is handled by Stripe. Email is delivered through our mail provider. The site is hosted on servers in Australia. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
Cookies
The site sets one session cookie, used to protect forms against forgery and to keep an administrator signed in. It contains no personal information and expires when you close the browser. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Security and retention
Data is stored on access-controlled servers, with form submissions protected by rate limits and spam checks. Enquiries and claims are kept for as long as they are needed to deal with the request and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted. Listing and payment records are kept while the listing or plan exists and for the period required by tax law.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can ask for a listing to be changed or removed. Use the contact page. We respond within a reasonable time and will tell you if there is a reason we cannot do what you ask. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.
